By enrolling in the nurse aide training program at Lamar State College, students with the desire to help others will learn the required skills to start a career as a CNA. The role of a nurse aide is essential in today's health care system, with CNAs being viewed as valuable members of any health care team. The courses required to become a nurse aide are in fact prerequisites for the vocational nursing program at Lamar State College. Any student who decides to apply to the vocational nurse program after working as a nurse aide will be given priority and will not have to repeat this coursework. Sometimes students have prior experience working as a nurse aide and wish to challenge the CNA coursework. Lamar State College allows these students to be tested on the coursework knowledge and grants credit upon successfully passing the test. Once you have the required nurse aide program credits, you may sit for the CNA state examination and become certified in the state of Texas. Lamar State College is offering the nurse aide training program at two of its campuses, located in Port Arthur and Orange, Texas.
