Austin Community College offers a state approved, nurse aide training program consisting of eighty-eight contact hours. Individuals interested in becoming a certified nurse aide need to enroll in two separate courses, each of them approved as standard training curriculum by the Nurse Aide Registry and Training Program of the Texas Department of Health. The first required program course consists of 56 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction. It is followed by a total of 32 hours which are part of the second CNA course, in which students are thought hands-on skills by providing care to residents of a nursing facility. Upon completion of the CNA program offered at Austin Community College students are allowed to challenge the certification exam and secure entry-level employment positions in long term care facilities throughout Texas.
