Did you know that in the last ten years the number of employed nurse aides has increased by forty percent? Every decade nurse aide programs need to produce more graduates in order to meet the needs of an increasing elderly population residing in nursing homes. Due to medical advances, people who have disabling, life long illnesses can now live longer, and therefore need constant care and help from health workers, especially with activities of daily living. The job of the nurse aide focuses on providing the basic care and assistance to these individuals not only in nursing homes but also in home health, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities. Vocational nurses and registered nurses need to work closely with nursing assistants to provide holistic, individualized care to each patient.
