To determine employability, facilities and agencies must check an applicant's criminal history, Nurse Aide Registry status, and Employee Misconduct Registry status. What are the requirements for CNA recertification in Texas? A nurse aide in Texas may lose the right to practice and must apply for recertification in the following two instances: when the person did not work as a nurse aide for two straight years, or when the CNA has been no longer listed as active on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry. In these instances the nurse aide is encouraged to apply for recertification. Be aware that a CNA can not obtain recertification if found guilty of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of client property or if the nurse aide has been convicted for criminal charges.
